Jeff Brinton

Executive Director of Cultural Industries, Government of Alberta

As Executive Director of the Government of Alberta’s Cultural Industries Branch, Mr. Brinton is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the activities that support Alberta’s Cultural Industries, which include film, television and digital media (screen based) production; book and magazine publishing; and sound recording.  It is a priority of Cultural Industries branch to oversee the ongoing growth and development of the sector through the identification and analysis of critical environmental factors, trends and collaboratively working with industry stakeholders to develop strategies that support investment, capacity development and business development opportunities. 


For nearly 20 years, Mr. Brinton has worked in a variety of roles in support of Canada’s cultural industries, especially in Alberta. Mr. Brinton comes to the role of Executive Director after having served the film, television and digital media sector as the Alberta Film Commissioner for a number of years. His wide range of experiences and knowledge in this sector have given him a comprehensive understanding of the ingredients required to successfully support the immediate needs of the cultural industries while working with key stakeholders on developing a long term strategy for success. Prior to working as Film Commissioner, Mr. Brinton was the Director of Communications and Media with the Canadian Film and Television Production Association (CFTPA)  was also responsible for Marketing and Industry Development with the Calgary International Film Festival and held a variety of roles including Marketing Director with the Banff Television Foundation.
