J. Joly

CEO & Founder, CineCoup Media Inc.

From his first part-time job working as a theatre usher on a Canadian Military base in Germany, he has spent two decades working in media. During his undergraduate at Queen’s University he founded a progressive rock group that recorded two albums and toured with acts including The Tragically Hip, Wilco and Primus. After graduation, he directed award-winning shorts, worked for the Just for Laughs festival, and at every level of production on films, television and commercials in Toronto. Relocating to Vancouver he founded the award- winning digital agency OverInterActive Media Inc (OMI) receiving investment from Bootup Labs to develop dimeRocker, a cloud-based platform designed to accelerate the creation of branded gamification and second screen TV strategies. A leader in his field, he has spoken at Banff World Media Festival, TIFF, PrimeTime, Petchakucha and NXNE to name a few. He sits on the board of Vancouver International Film Festival and also as a National Advisor for the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. In 2012 he, along with Brian Wideen, founded CineCoup, an award-winning disruptive studio that received initial backing from Growlabs. Piloted in Canada, the first feature packaged, marketed and produced through this accelerated model was “Wolfcop” a film that by every measure was a success from its opening weekend screen-average, high foreign sales and ancillary potential – in fact the sequel has already been greenlight and set to go to camera in fall 2014. Recently CineCoup announced they would be partnering with CBC and Just for Laughs on ComedyCoup, a similar comedy accelerator to find Canada’s next great television comedy talent.
